- The Nelson Star
“I have never known a singer more able to honestly and transparently delight in the success of those around her. She understands implicitly that no matter what her gifts (and she has many), there is always room to learn from others and that in the fabric of community, to encourage others to shine in no way diminishes one's own bright light.”
- Allison Girvan, 2022
“Sapphire Guthrie is a true Canadian gem - an old soul with a depth and musicality far beyond her years. A gifted songwriter with a warm, rich, and beautiful voice, she brings both heart and craft to everything she creates. Kind, generous, and deeply community-minded, Sapphire has a rare ability to gather people through music. I have had the joyful pleasure of knowing her both as a mentor and as a colleague, and it has been an honour to witness her growth and artistry.” - Laura Landsberg

More About Sapphire:
I was born in Canada, however my early childhood years were spent living in San Miguel De Allende, Mexico where music was an integral part of the culture and inspired me from a very young age. After moving to Nelson, BC at the age of 9, I was fortunate to find many musical mentors and communities in which I could foster my love for and understanding of music. I took up multiple instruments, played in my school bands, joined choirs where my interest and love for vocal harmonies thrived, and found a local mentor who introduced me to the worlds of production and studio recording.
At 17, I was accepted into the Music and Technology Program at Selkirk College, where I continued my studies in voice and guitar, and graduated with a Diploma in Songwriting and an Advanced Diploma in Production.
Since graduating college, I’ve dedicated myself to establishing a reliable and respected reputation in my local music community, and have done so through my performances, recording work, directing and assistant directing for choir and musical theatre, and collaborations with other musicians, artists and videographers.
My latest project is a session video series I have created to aid both my own musical and professional growth as well as give back to the community that has provided me so much. It’s mission is to highlight Kootenay musicians and their local cities and towns, giving insight into what makes this small pocket of the world so uniquely rich in music and community.
